Restoration Mallorca

"For a model of the city of Palma in which we all fit"

"The new terrace ordinance is detrimental to the safety and health of workers, for the citizen safety and well-being of the neighbors, for employment and the economy, and contrary to a dynamic and attractive city model for Palmesans and tourists," explains Alfonso Robledo, President of Restauración Mallorca CAEB.

From this institution it is regretted that the municipal government "prohibits" instead of seeking solutions suitable to reality in matters of tourist rental, terrace schedules, awnings on terraces, furniture on terraces, etc. The sector, Robledo says, has made a number of proposals that have been received with "deaf ears", since none of them have been taken into account, despite being a sector that generates employment and benefits the economy of the city.

“Restauración CAEB Mallorca regrets that the municipal government forbids instead of seeking suitable solutions"

The neighbor doesn't mind an awning

"The terraces are compatible with the neighbors, they themselves assure, we do not want to be harmed a neighborhood of Palma, or all Palma together, by a restaurant that does not respect the Ordinance".
In a press release Restauración CAEB Mallorca assures that the neighbor "does not mind an awning" since most of the neighbors are in favour of the terraces. In the same way ,"they don't care that the furniture stays outside the premises from closing to opening". For this reason they demand a "coherent and listening policy to all neighbours, entrepreneurs and tourists".

"They don't care if the furniture stays outside the premises from closing to opening"

"The terraces bring the city to life" continues the communiqué "remember that not many years ago it was tradition that each neighbor took his chair to the portal of house, with other citizens, to participate in long hours of talk". Alfonso Robledo wonders: was there talk at the time of occupation of the public road? Did it occur to our parents and grandparents to think they were breaking the law? Who doesn't like sitting on a terrace?

"Deaf ears" at the request for the extension of the moratorium

Restauración CAEB Mallorca has the backing of CAEB, but also of the majority trade unions, that is CCOO and UGT, and already requested in its day the city council of Palma, unanimously and with one voice, the extension of the moratorium on the terraces, as long as no answer was given to questions raised in terms of safety and health at work , where it seems that "no municipal manager has stopped to think." A request to which the city council also made "deaf ears."

"The Ordinance is resulting in job losses and reduced economic activity"

According to Restauración CAEB Mallorca, the Ordinance is resulting in a loss of jobs and the reduction of economic activity. A fact that will aggravate the current situation, at a backdrop of a widespread slowdown in the economy and in a situation where unemployment has been increasing four consecutive months after six years falling uninterrupted.

The dangers of replacing awnings with umbrellas

The Ordinance also mandates the replacement of awnings with umbrellas. A fact that can create "a citizen safety problem if the wind blows an umbrella, which can undoubtedly cause personal and material damage of a very diverse nature, difficult to calculate and of dubious responsibility and a occupational safety and health problem for workers."

In addition, it reaffirms the press release "the Palmesans do not want to go back, to the years in which citizens complained that Palma was deserted and lacking life, the neighbors of Palma want a dynamic, cheerful and attractive city both for their own enjoyment, and to attract a tourism, which is the main engine of our economy".

"The Palmesans do not want to go back, to the years when the citizens complained that Palma was deserted"

"Terraces are generators of employment and, without objecting to their use being ordered, we understand that it must be done in the best possible way, without harming the employment, the workload borne by the waiters, nor the safety and occupational health of the workers."
